I really like Mongolian music. khoomei is very soothing. Today I was
listening to Egschiglen. Originally I thought it was too influenced by
the German producers and sounded kind of Oom-Pah-Pah, like they were
trying to appeal to some kind of traditional German audience. Anyway,
I like them. Also, I don't know why there seems to be such an
abundance of Tuvan artists after the relase of Genghis Blues, like
Huun-Huur-Tu, Yat-Kha and Kongar-al Ondar. The 2 Mongolian pieces on
the Silk Road Project are interesting (though only 2), mainly the
woman singing longsong, though YYM does not play the morinkhuur
Mongolian style.

Does anyone have any favorite CDs of Mongolian music (besides
Jantsannorov)?

My personal favorite is "Living Music of the Steppes." It has a
nice balance of male and female singers. Most of the Mongolian
CDs I have are primarily male singers.

That was my first introduction to Mongolian music in 2001. Great CD. I
listened again to it today. I like the variation of material on that
CD. That was the first khoomei I ever heard. I love Mongolian culture.
I had an idea to start a Mongolian cable TV channel. Show Naadam
reruns frequently but with English speakers.
7. Altai song (most common Mongolian folk song?)
9. Shiilen boor
15. Bishur ensemble (sounds like bagpipes! I never heard another
Mongolian play something like this)
16. A Beloved Otter-Colored Horse (I really like this song. It
expresses different stages of a horse ride. I am a cyclist, and a
horse ride has a lot in common with a long bike ride.)
19. The Tale of JangGar (can't understand the story, but wish I could)
1. Huhu Namyil (nice voice and morinkhuur)
2. Ayaz (romantic Mongolian music. morinkhuur?)
3. Eruu cagaan bolimor (nice alto woman singer)
4. Taban hasag (sounds like the German producers got them to do
"Oom-paa-paa" here; still nice)
8. Uglee shaazgai
11. Hadin oriogoor
12. Durvun uul siilen buur (nice romantic khoomei)
13. Taivan namar (real nice female singer)
16. Chandmani nutag (real nice sygyt khoomei. I would much rather
listen to this than any pop song.)
17. Temujin (khoomei sounds like a flying saucer.)
Dr.Ts.Tserendorj &Soyol-Erdene "Mongolia Mongol Horse Ensemble"
Very good morinkhuur and khoomei. highly recommended
1. Chinggis khaan (nice Mongolian serious style khoomei w/morinkhuur)
4. Tumen Agtyn tuvuguu (nice fast technical morinkhuur.)
7. Builgan Atny Yavdal (nice basic morinkhuur solo)
9. Sunjidmaa (very nice light bouncy morinkhuur; enjoyable)
